Funeral Rites Planned for John Melchor
The funeral of John Hartzell Melchor, 69, veteran Easton area dairy
farmer, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Durham Lutheran Church.
Mr. Melchor was fatally injured Saturday afternoon when a farm tractor
toppled and pinned him to the ground at his farm in Williams Township.
He was pronounced dead at Easton Hospital at 2:05 p.m. According to
George T. Kametz, Northampton County coroner, death was caused by a
crushed chest and body.
Mr. Melchor was using a loader attached to the tractor to lift rocks
into a dump truck. A Rock overbalanced the tractor causing it to upset,
Kametz said.
Mr. Melchor operated the Bach-Echo farms, known in the area for it's
Holstein herd.
He operated a milk route in the Easton area for 40 years. He gave
up the route about five years ago. He remained a dairy farmer during
the time he operated the milk route.
Born in Williams Township, he was a son of the late Milton and Ida
Hartzell Melchor. He lived in the vicinity of his present home all
his life.
He was a member of Durham Lutheran Church and Served as deacon and
trustee of the church. he was a member of Durham Lutheran Church and
served as deacon and trustee of the church. He was a member of National
Holstein Association and the Pennsylvania State Holstein Association.
He served on the advisor board of the Lehigh Valley Cooperative Farmers.
He was a director of the Northampton County Dairy herd Improvement
Association, and the Northampton County Holstein Club.
Surviving are his widow the former Carrie M. Barron, two sons, and
a sister, Mrs. Mary Kanusky, Hellertown.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Durham Lutheran
Church.
