Joseph E. Mammana, 74, of Palmer Township, died May 8 in Easton Hospital. He was married to Charlotte M. (Wenner) Mammana for 41 years last September.

A graduate of the University of Rochester (N.Y.), he was director of assessment for Northampton County before retiring in 1985. Previously, he was a real estate officer for the former Union Bank and Trust Co., Bethlehem, assistant secretary/treasurer of the former Phillipsburg Trust Co., treasury agent, real estate broker and certified real estate appraiser.

Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Placid and Katherine (Voight) Mammana.

He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Lester Pfeffer American Legion Post 611, Easton, and Brown & Lynch American Legion Post band, Easton.

He was a board member of the Pennsylvania Assessors Association, a member of AARP, and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

He was past master of Masonic Lodge 152, Easton; past high priest of Easton Royal Arch Chapter 173; past thrice illustrious master of Pomp Council 20, Royal and Select Master Masons; past commander of Hugh dePayens Commandery 19; Knights of York Cross of Honor recipient; recipient of Grand Cross of Color award from the International Order of Rainbow for Girls; past commander and member of line officers association, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; and member of Lehigh Valley Joshua Association.

He was a former member and assistant commissioner of Boy Scouts of America Minsi Trail Council; past assistant scoutmaster of BSA Troop 13, Wilson; BSA Award of Merit, Silver Beaver, and Wood Badge recipient; and member of the Order of the Arrow.

Survivors: Wife; sons, daughters, sister, Marie of Bethlehem; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren.
