Will of Frederick Kreidler 1818
In the name of God, Amen. I, Frederick Kreidler of Lower Nazareth
Township, in the County of Northampton and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
yeoman, being very weak and sick in body but of sound mind, memory,
and understanding, blessed be God for the same, do make and constitute
this my last will and testament. First and principally, I recommend
my immortal spirit to He who gave it, in hopes of a joyful resurrection
and my body to the Earth, to be buried decently at the discretion of
my executors according to the rights of the Lutheran Church. And as
to such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me, I
give and dispose thereof as follows.
Item it is my will and I give and bequeath unto my dearly beloved
wife Barbara (note-Barbara is written above the word wife, as if entered
after the will had been entered into the will book) all my household
goods, and kitchen furniture of what nature soever, together with the
house I now live in, and garden, during her natural life and widowhood,
and do order and direct that my executors give my said wife, Barbara,
the interest of two hundred pounds yearly and every year during the
time aforesaid which shall remain on my landed property or real estate
and also give unto her yearly, one good fat hog to weigh at least one
hundred pounds, fifteen bushels of rye and six bushels of wheat. They
to take the wheat and rye to mill for her and deliver the meal to her
house. And also six bushels of potatoes yearly and she to, as many
apples as she wants for her use, if there are any on the place and
to keep one cow for her in the pasture and feed her as their own stable
room. And also to supply her, my said wife, with fuel, as much as she
stands in need of, to haul it to her door and cut it small, fit for
her stove.
And I give and bequeath unto my son Jacob Kreidler the sum of eight
hundred dollars lawful money, to be paid to him by my executors four
years after my decease, which shall be in full of his share out of
my real and personal estate.
And I give unto my daughter Catherine, the wife
of Michael Seip,
to her heirs and assigns, the sum of eight hundred dollars to be paid
to her four years after my decease, which shall be in full of her share
or portion out of my real and personal estate.
And I give and bequeath unto the children of my daughter Elizabeth,
the wife of Melchior Transue and to their heirs and assigns, the sum
of eight hundred dollars to be paid to them by my executors when the
youngest child shall arrive at the age of twenty-one years, with this
provision, that if the said Melchior Transue should die, and my said
daughter Elizabeth should stand in need of support, then and in that
case it is mywill that the said eight hundred shall be paid to her
herself and not to her children.
And I give and devise unto my son Daniel Kreidler, and to his heirs
and assignees all that house and lot where he now lives I, together
with the lot where the smith shop is erected on, to have and to hold
the said lots with the appurtenances to him the said Daniel Kreidler
his heirs and assignees forever.
And as concerning all the rest of my real estate consisting of three
tracts of land the one situated of Lower Nazareth Township and County
aforesaid adjoins lands of Michael Byer, Henry Beck, Jacob Young, John
Hartzel, and the Nazareth road containing about one hundred and eighty
five acres (185), the second tract of chestnut timberland near the
mountains in said county. And also one undivided ninth part of twenty
seven hundred and fifty (2750) acres in Lycoming County. I give and
devise unto my five sons namely Frederick, Daniel,
George, Peter, and Conrad, and to their heirs and assignees, the proceeds thereof on the
following condition, that is to say it is my will that the same shall
be appraised by five disinterested men, each of my said sons to hire
one man. And if appraised, I give and devise the same unto two sons,
Peter and Conrad, and to their heirs and assigns, to have and to hold
the same as tenants in common, if they choose to take the same at the
said appraisement or any part but incase they should not select to
take the same or any part thereof, then the same to be sold for the
best price can be gotten at public auction or private auction as my
said sons shall see fit and most advantageous, first giving due and
legal notice such sale, and the monies arising there from, first paying
the aforesaid legacies to be equally amongst my said five sons, namely
Frederick, Daniel, George, Peter, and Conrad, or their heirs and assignees.
And as touching my personal estate, bonds, notes, book accounts of
what nature soever the same may be, I give and bequeath the same unto
my said five sons, Frederick, Daniel, George, Peter, and Conrad and
to their heirs and assigns. But such appraisement or sale not to take
place until four years after my decease.
And lastly, I nominate and appoint my sons Daniel Kreidler, Peter
Kreidler and Conrad Kreidler to be the executors of this, my will,
hereby revoking all other wills, legacies and bequests by me heretofore
made and declaring this and no other will to be my last will and testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the twelfth
day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
eighteen(1818).
