William H. Kieffer, II
William Henry Kieffer, II, of 400 E. Seven Oaks Drive, Greenville, S.C., formerly of Easton, Plainfield, La Prairie, Quebec, Canada, and Summit, N.J., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003.

Born: In Easton, he was a son of the late Floyd R. and Mary Mitchell Kieffer.

Personal: His wife of 57 years, Jane H., died earlier. William was a graduate of Lafayette College, where he earned a B.S. in chemical engineering. He began his career in 1936 at Calco Chemical Division, American Cyanamid Company. From 1950 to 1961, he was employed as district manager, general sales manager, and vice-president of sales with Ciba Company, Inc., in New York City; from 1964 to 1970, he was employed he as vice-president of marketing with Indian Head- Carisbrook in New York City; and from 1970 until his retirement in 1982, he served as senior vice-president, and vice-president and general manager of Luray, Va., plant. While a resident of St. Lambert, he volunteered as a youth baseball coach.

Memberships: He was presently a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Greenville, where he has served as elder and on the session. He was also a Sunday school superintendent. teacher, three time chairman, nominating committee (search), stewardship campaign chairman, Presbytery E&L Division, Executive Committee, Synod of South Atlantic Council and Nurture Unit Chairman. He was a former member of Calvary Methodist Church in Easton, the Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church in Plainfield, the Central Presbyterian Church in Summit, where he was active as an elder, Sunday school teacher, and Sunday school superintendent. While in Summit, he served on the YMCA board, was a Hi-Y Club leader, served on the community youth council and was a school board member and senior high PTA president. While living in Greenville, he was heavily involved in many community activities. He served as vice president of agency relations, in 1988, he served as first vice-president, in 1989 he served as chairman of board and from 1997 to 1999, served as chairman of the special. gifts campaign, all for the United Way of Greater Greenville, where he was also a member of the executive committee and the board of directors. William also served as president of the Kiwanis Foundation; as chairman of the Governor's Work Force Initiative Council, the DSS-Community Based Work Support Council, the Tech/Prep Consortium Board, the United Way of South Carolina and DSS Partnership and the Jobs Coordinating Council; as director of the Greenville Urban League Board and the Greenville DSS Board; served on the Kiwanis Board, the Workforce nvestment Board, the Business, Education and Community Partnership of Greenville County, the Work Force Development Council of the Chamber of Commerce, the Tax Commission of Chanticleer Community, the board of United Way of South Carolina, the Community Planning Council Board of Greenville, the board of the Private Industry Council of Greenville County, on the board and the executive committee of the Mental Health Association of Greenville County and on the board of the Mental Health Association of South Carolina, where he also served as a treasurer,. and was a member of the executive committee. In addition to that, Mr. Kieffer, was the managing director of Shipyard Village A27 Partnership in Litchfield Beach, S.C., the advisory board chairman of the arts and science division of Greenville Tech, a water safety committee and swim instructor for the Red Cross, a member of the County Infant Mortality Task Force, a volunteer for or the Greenville Hospital System and a member of the Community Foundation of Greenville.

Survivors: his children, **** of Boston, **** of Maple Grove, Minn., and **** of Summit; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and his sister, Betty V. Kieffer of Greenville. Services: A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday in Westminster Presbyterian Church, under the direction of The Mackey Mortuary in Greenville.
