W. F. Kiefer, 73, City Employee for 47 years
William F. Kiefer, 73, of 117 W. Wilkes-Barre St., Easton, died unexpectedly about 9:30 p.m. Saturday at his home.
He retired seven years ago as foreman of the Easton city garbage disposal plant. A municipal employee for 47 years, he began as city fireman when fire engines were still horse-drawn, and transferred later to the Sanitation Department.
Mr. Kiefer was born Feb 9, 1887 in Williams Township, a son of the late Wilson and Ida King Kiefer. He resided at the Wilkes-Barre Street address since August 1926.
He was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Easton.
Surviving are his widow, the former Mrs. Alice Johnson Thomas: three stepsons, John Thomas, Allentown; Ray Thomas, Front Royal, Va and Charles Thomas, Weaversville; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Margaret MacDonald, Bloomfield, N.J. one grandchild and five step-grandchildren.
His first wife, the former Minerva Elizabeth Gorminger, died in 1936. A brother, Herbert, died about a year ago.
The funeral will be private, but friends may call between 7 and 9 o'clock tonight at the Shillinger Funeral Home, Easton. |
