Sergeants: of Mount Bethel township, July 9, 1776. He died in 1776 in Long Island,
"in captivity"

** Not proved, just a "theory" based on my research. Andrew is not mentioned in John Kooper's will of Tinicum Township, Bucks County.

Keifer descendants state they are distant relatives of the Kiefers of Mount Bethel, found in Williams Township Passfinder. Volume 2, No 2, April 1978, written by Charles E. Boyd

"Sgt. Andrew Kiefer (1755-1776), ancestor of the late Williams Township Keifers, was recorded as "of Mt. Bethel" when he joined, on July 1776, the special militia company of Capt. John rndt. This company was raised in Easton, on the day after the Declaration of Independence was proclaimed thre, for the specific purpose of joining the Flying Camp which was hastily recruited to face the pending British invasion of New York.

On 27 Aug 1776, Sft. Kiefer was killed in Brooklyn, N.Y., during the action which wiped out Col. Peter Kachline's battalion of the Flying Camp, of which Capt. Arndt's Company was part

When Sft. Kiefer was killed, he left a baby son, Andrew Jr.l, born 15 March 1776. His widow, Barbara Eckert Kiefer (d 1834), was probably a Williams Twonship Eckert who lived with Township relatives after 1776. Andrew Jr. was reared in the township, the records of Old Williams Church recording him repeatedly as a communicat in the 1780's and 1790's. "

Since Andrew died before his father, he may have not been mentioned in his father's will, since remaining children were alive.

DNA test from Andrew Kiefer Descendant (James Kiefer) indicates his line is more related to Coopers than to Kiefers. Via a direct e-mail written to me about the Kiefer, Kufers, Kupers, Coopers.

Peter Kiefer was born in Bucks County and moved to Mt. Bethel area of Northampton County, this is the Kiefer family I descend from..
