Ex-Foreman Of Pressroom At Express
Lester B. Kelchner, 66, retried assistant foreman of the pressroom at The Express, died at 4:50 a.m. today in Easton Hospital where he was admitted Thursday. He had been under a doctor's care.
Mr. Kelchner lived in Belfast since July 1967. Previously he resided at 1837 Fairview Ave., Wilson.
He retired from the The Express in November 1968, closing out a career of 47 years in newspaper pressrooms - 32 of them with The Express.
Mr. Kelchner began his newspaper career in 1921 with the Easton Argus and joined The Express in 1926 when it purchased the Argus.
He left The Express in 1946 and, after 10 years on newspapers in Newark, returned to The Express in 1956. He was named assistant foreman of the pressroom in December 1966.
Born Nov 5, 1903, in Easton, Mr. Kelchner was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William H. Kelchner Sr.

Surviving are his widow, the former Mildred A. Johnson; two sons, Clarence D., Allentown, and Russell D., Phillipsburg; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Sabo, Irvington, N.J.; three brothers, Watler, Plainfield, N.J.; William H. Jr., Easton, and Lawrence, Palmer Township, and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Strunk Funeral Home, Easton. Interment will be in Hay's Cemetery. |
