WILLIAM A. GROSS, 87, EX-W. EASTON BASKETBALL PLAYER, REFEREE,
COACH

William A. Gross, 87, of West Easton, died Tuesday, April
13, in Easton Hospital. He was the husband of Marian (Jones)
Gross. They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary
on Sunday .
He worked in the Cameron Pump Division of Ingersoll Rand
Co., Phillipsburg, for 40 years until retiring in 1976. Previously,
he was employed by the former Chipman Knitting Mills, West
Easton.
Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Arlington Gross
and Sadie (Hackman) Gross Brinker.
He was a member of Memorial United Church of Christ, Wilson.
Years ago he played basketball in the former Bi-State Basketball
League, New Jersey AAU Traveling Team, Hackettstown Barons,
Weston Club, Memorial Reformed Church Team and West Easton
Athletic Association.
He coached the Wilson Midget and Livingston School Basketball
teams and was a former high school basketball official. He
was also a retired member of the Easton Chapter, PIAA and
a former baseball umpire in the Easton area.
An avid golfer, he organized the Cameron Pump Golf League
and was a former member of Harkers Hallow Golf Club and Green
Pond Golf Club.
He was a former member of the West Easton Zoning and Hearing
Board, West Easton Athletic Association and Safety First
Volunteer Fire Company, West Easton.
Survivors: Wife; son, daughter,
five grandchildren and four
great- grandchildren.
Services: 11:30 a.m. Friday, Strunk Funeral Home, 602 W.
Berwick St., Easton. Call 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday.
