John Geiger Jr., 44, City Fireman, Was War Veteran
John G. Geiger Jr., 44 Easton fireman, died this morning at the Veterans
Administration Hospital the Bronx, N.Y. He was admitted to the Lebanon
Veterans Hospital on Feb. 24. He was transferred to the Bronx hospital
March 30.
Mr. Geiger resided with his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs.
William E. Wohlbach, 160 W. Lincoln Street, Easton.
He was appointed to the Easton Fire Bureau on Feb 2, 1952. He was
a pump truck operator at No. 4 (South Side) Station. He was transferred
to the Sixth street station about 2 1/2 years ago..
Born in Easton on Feb. 23, 1915, he was a son of John G. Geiger Sr.
and the late Rosa Moser Geiger.
Mr. Geiger served in the Army during World War II. He entered service
in 1943 and served 11 months with a hospital unit in England. He was
discharged in 1946.
Before he went into service he was employed by his father who operated
Geiger's Bakery, South Side. After his discharge he was a route man
for the George F. Hellick Coffee Co. and was employed by Shriver's
Gas Converting Co. of Philadelphia when the gas line in Easton were
converted to natural gas.
He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, South Side; Order of
Fleas, YMCA, Pennsylvania State Fire Fighters Association and International
Association of Fire Fighters.
Surviving, in addition to his father and sister, Mary, with who he
resided, are a brother, Earl J. O. Geiger, Easton R.D. 4: three other
sisters, Jennie F., wife of Dr. Leo H. Cericola, and Mrs. Anna Sandt,
both of Easton, and Elizabeth D., wife of Sterling Heil, Larabee, Iowa,
and his stepmother, Mrs. Kathryn Geiger, Easton. A sister, Freda, died
in 1956.
