Aged Man has Fatal Fall
Frank Garis Found Dead Beneath Bedroom Window
Frank Garis, 70 years old, of 107 Crescent Avenue, Glendon
Heights, was found dead underneath an open bedroom window of
his home early yesterday morning.
His body was seen first by Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Taylor, of
109 Crescent Avenue, who notified Mr. Garis' nephew, Roy Moser,
of 915 Lincoln Avenue, South Side, who in turn called the authorities.
Chief County Detective H. J. Menikheim and Dr. Theodore Reichbaum,
deputy coroner, who were called, after investigation pronounced
death due to accidental causes. The authorities said it was
possible that the age man went to the window for some air during
the night and may have been seized with a dizzy spell and fallen.
The drop was about 12 feet on a concrete pavement.
John Perkins, who lives in the adjoining house at 105 Cresent
Avenue, told authorities he heard a thud about 1 o'clock in
the morning but thought nothing of it until the body of Mr.
Garis was found.
Mrs. Jennie Sells, sister-in-law of the deceased, who has
been keeping house for Mr. Garis since his wife (Mrs. Bell's
sister) died two weeks ago, was asleep in the house when neighbors
found the body. She said she heard nothing during the night.
Mr. Garis was born in Easton and was a son of the late Joseph
and Margaret Berkey Garis. For the past 35 years he had been
employed as a blacksmith at the Lehigh Valley Shops and he
was a member of the Lehigh Valley Railroad Veterans Association
and Camp 407,P.O.S. of A. His wife died on July 11. Deceased
was the last surviving member of his family. He leaves a number
of nieces and nephews. |
