Edwin “Jap” Downs, Was Tavern Operator
Edwin J. (Jap) Downs, 67, of 75, S. Main St., Phillipsburg, died unexpectedly last night at the Phillipsburg Elks Home, where he roomed. The Phillipsburg Emergency Squad was called.
Mr. Downs was a veteran of World War I. He served with the Army in France.
At one time he operated the forest Tavern, know known as the Brass Rail, near Phillipsburg. He retired about 18 years ago.
Born in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the late William and Sevilla Woodruff Downs.
He was of the Methodist faith, He was a member of Philipsburg Lodge 395, BPOE.
Surviving is a brother, John M., Springtown Road, Alpha.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Finegan Funeral Home, Phillipsburg. |
