John M. Downs
John M. Down, 80, of Springtown Road, Alpha, died Thursday in Warren Hospital.
Before retiring 15 years ago, he worked for 10 years as a police officer on the Northampton Street Bridge for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge commission.
Born in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the late William and Sevilla Woodruff Downs.
Mr. Downs was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Delaware Lodge 52, F&AM, and Elks Lodge 395, all of Philipsburg; the Alpha Fire Co., and the John Dolak American Legion Post in Alpha.
His wife the former Alice Seifert, died in 1976.
Surviving are a son, Edwin of Altemonte Springs, Fla., and a daughter, Joan Rossetti, of Alpha; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Finegan funeral Home, Alpha. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Harmony. |
