Aged Workman Loses Life
Joseph Beam Died Before Reaching Easton Hospital
Joseph Beam, seventy eight years old. faithful employee of he National
Fire Proofing Company's plant, near Port Murray, lost his life yesterday
afternoon in a cave in of a kiln. Mr Beam was a carpenter and he had
gone into the kiln to make repairs. When the accident happened every
effort was made to save the man, and the there were many heroic acts.
Doctors were called, among them Dr,'s Zook and McKinstrey and word
was sent to Easton. The ambulance from the Easton Hospital responded
but before Mr. Beam reached the institution he died.
Despite his advanced age the unfortunate man was daily employed and
he was regarded as a carpenter of merit. General sorrow was express
when the news of the accident became known.
Another man was injured in the same cave-in although not seriously.
Mr. Beam lived in Port Murray. He is survived by his wife, a son Sylvanus
Beam and a daughter Mrs. Edward Zellers also of Port Murray.
When the cave-in happened a number of men ran to the rescue of the
men who were caught and in their efforts to save the men minor injuries
were incurred.
The deceased was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Washinton
and Mansfield Lodge I. O. O. F., Port Murray. He had been in the employ
of the National Fire Proofing Company for many years.
The Funeral will be he held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, standard
time with interment at Port Murray.

Funeral of Accident Victim
The funeral of Joseph A Beam was held this afternoon from his late
home in Port Murray. Rev H. L. Bolton pastor of the Methodist Episcopal
Church of which the deceased was a trustee, officiated, being assisted
by Rev W. W. Hoagland, past of Mansfield Baptist church. A delegation
of members of Mansfield Lodge I. O. O. F. attended. Interment was made
in the Mansfield Baptist Cemetery. Mr Beam was killed last Thursday
afternoon in a cave-in at the plant of the National Fireproofing Company,
at Port Murray. |
