F. P. Altemus, 72, Nazareth Mason, stricken On Street
Floyd P. Altemus, 72, retired Nazareth Mason and bricklaying
contractor, died in St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill,
at 5:45 a.m. today after he was stricken on a Nazareth street.
Mr. Altemus, who resided alone at 213 N. Main St., Nazareth,
became ill after midnight and started to walk to the home of
his son, Lester, in Nazareth. He was stricken on the street
at 1 a.m. and was seen by a neighbor. He was taken to the hospital
in the Nazareth Fire Co. Ambulance.
Mr. Altemus was born June 30 1894 at Saylorsburg R.D.1, son
of the late James and Emma Gruver Altemus. He had resided in
Nazareth for 50 years. His wife the former Mamie Werkheiser,
died March 7, 1946.
He was a member of Nazareth Moravian Church, Nazareth lodge,
Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Vigilance Hose co., Nazareth
and East Lawn Fire Co., and an associate member of the Nazareth
posts of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving in addition to his son are three other sons, Walter
and Claude, both of Allentown, and Ralph, Chicago; two brothers,
Melvin, Nazareth, and Arthur, Allentown; a sister, Mrs. Spence
Green, Emmaus; six granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the F.W. Schmidt
Mortuary, Nazareth. |
