The Glessner's were canal boatmen for the Delaware Canal. William left his mules and boats to his wife and sons. If the business didn't do well they were suppose to sell them. William's wife remarried after his death, which was the end of the canal boat era. Williamsport is now part of South Easton. It was located on the South bank of the Lehigh River where is flowed into the Delaware river. Foundations from the houses that use to be there can still be seen along Route 611 between Easton and Williams Township. Ludwig or Leonard Glessner came to America in 1819, he was a Lieutenent in the Royal Hussars under Jerome Bonaparte, King of Westphalia. Youngest brother of Napoleon Bonaparte.
