Self-Inflicted Bullet Wound in the Head Proves Fatal
William Gaffney, who shot himself in the head at Belvidere on Wednesday afternoon died in Easton Hospital at 9 o’clock Thursday evening. Deceased was 28 years of age, and is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Jessie Delabore; also by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gaffney, of the South Side and these brothers and sisters; Thomas, James, Frank, Philip, Joseph, Miss Annie Gaffney, Mrs. Thomas Langan and Mrs. Floyd Stem, all of this city. His brother, Fred, was killed by being run over by a trolley car on South Third street on December 16 last.

Gaffney resided on South Third Street, over G. E. Dull’s flour and feed store and was formerly employed by Drake & Co.

John Gaffney, father of the young man, is speaking of the latter’s death this afternoon related a painful coincidence. Mr. Gaffney is employed at the Fitzgerald-Speer Lumber Company’s plant, up the Bushkill. After stopping work on Wednesday afternoon he started for his home on the South Side. He knew nothing about his son’s act until her reached South Third street, when a friend stopped him and related the sad details. The spot where he received his information was the identical place where his little son, Freddie, had left his side six weeks ago to run across the street to greet his brother and was struck and killed by a trolley car.
