John Buzzard, M.D. of Bangor died rather suddenly Saturday afternoon of diabetes at his home at Bangor. He was 43 years of age and leaves a widow and three sons and a daughter. The deceased was born near Bangor and had lived in that town nearly all his life. He was financially interested in the slate business and was reputed to be worth considerable money. He was prominently identified with the Masonic fraternity.

Dr. John Buzzard, of Bangor, died at his home on Saturday afternoon at 4 o’clock, in the 44th year of his age. Dr. Buzzard had been a sufferer from diabetes the past three years and for a year could not attend in his duties as he died formerly. On Wednesday of last week he was compelled to take to his bad and summoned Dr. Dilliard, of East Bangor, to attend home. Dr. Dilliard administered morphine t his patient who was suffering excruciating pain and cautioned him not to take any himself. The deceased however did use the drug and on Saturday took an overdose and became unconscious at 2 o’clock and remained in that condition until death ensued. He was well and favorably known in Easton.

At the age of 15 years he doctor began teaching school and later read medicine with Dr. A. A. Seem, of Bangor. In 1873 he entered the Long Island Medical College from which institution he graduated 9 years later and to short time began his practice in Bangor where he was one of the most popular physicians and enjoyed an extensive practice up to the time of his failing health, when he was compelled to relinquish some of the work.

The deceased took an active interest in all things which he thought would be a benefit to his community. In 1875 when Bangor was incorporated into a borough he was elected on of the members of Council and Council elected him town clerk. He also served on term as school director. The deceased was one of the organizers of the First National Bank, of Bangor, and was a director for eight years. When the Merchant’s National Bank, of Bangor, was incorporated he was made the first president and served as a director for two years. For ten years he was a director of the Bangor & Portland Railroad Company. The deceased was at different times connected with the numerous slate industries of the vicinity.

The deceased is survived by his widow, and three sons and one daughter. Captain Isaac Buzzard and Amos Buzzard, of Bangor and Josiah Buzzard of Stroudsburg are brothers of the deceased, and the following are sisters, Mrs. P. J. Albert and Mrs. Marshall Hutchison, of Bangor and Mrs. Harrison Shannon, of Windsor, Conn.

The deceased was a 32d degree Mason and was a member of Bangor Lodge, No, 565, F. & A. M., Bangor Chapter, No. 274, R. A. M. Hugh de Payens Commandery, No 19, E. T., Easton, Scranton Consistory and Lula Temple of the Mystic Shrine of Philadelphia. He was also a member of Prosperity Lodge, No. 651, I. O. O. F., of Bangor, and a member and trustee of the Evangelical Church.
