Fatally Stricken While At Work
Edward Wetzel Dies Immediately After Shoeing Horse
Edward Wetzel, who was employed as a blacksmith at the shop of W. T. Mitman, on East Lehigh Street, died suddenly at 8 o'clock this morning just after he had but two shoes on a horse. He had a severe hemorrhage of lung, and he died several minutes after Dr. S. H. Dech of South Third Street, who had been summoned, arrived. Deceased was about 53 years of age, and he resided at the home of his mother, Mrs. Barnet Wetzel, in Palmer Township, along the Easton-Nazareth pike. Although a native of Palmer Township, he had been living in Philadelphia. He returned to this city two months ago and began to work at Mitman's blacksmith shop. His wife is still in Philadelphia, but was soon to have joined her husband here. She recently got out of Philadelphia hospital, where she had been ill. When he was stricken, Howard R. Eckert, another employee in the blacksmith shop, ran to his side and caught him as he fell,. He then sent for the doctor.
Besides his wife, deceased is survived by two daughters, his mother, Mrs. Barnet Wetzel, with whom he lived; also by one sister, at home; two married sisters and three brothers; Isaac Wetzel of Bethlehem Township, John Wetzel of New York City and Augustus Wetzel of Easton. |
