Horace Walter, Organizer Of Nazareth Legion Post
Horace E. Walter, 85, of 301 S. Main St. Nazareth, organizer and charter member of the Harold V. Knecht American Legion post, Nazareth, died yesterday in Easton Hospital where he was admitted Dec. 27.
He was a crane operator for Penn Dixie Cement Company, Nazareth. Plane No. 4, retiring in 1958 after 38 years of service.
Born in Belfast, he was a son of the late James and Ellen Saylor Walter.
He was member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Nazareth.
He was a 50-year member of the IOOF No. 1133, Hecktown, and played the drums in the first Drum and Bugle Corps of the American Legion of Nazareth.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War I.
He and his wife, the former Alma S. Fehnel, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 6
Surviving are a son, Jacob of Nazareth; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Three brothers, Francis, John and David, and two sisters, Mrs. Mame Johnson and Mrs. Bertha Williamson, all died before him.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Schmidt Mortuary, Nazareth. Interment will be in Belfast Union Cemetery. |
