W. J. Seiple, County Commissioner, Dies, A Victim of Heart
Failure
Illness Began Four Weeks Ago With cold That Developed Into
Pneumonia and Sapped His Strength
William James Seiple,a member of the board of commissioners
of Northampton County, and a well-0knownciitzen, died at 3:15
o’clock this morning at his home, no. 74 North Fourth
street, of heart trouble, which followed a heavy cold and pneumonia.
He was first taken ill about four weeks ago and a cold which
had contracted, developed into pneumonia. A week later hemorrhages
of the nose developed and these continued until last Friday,
when the physicians succeeded in stopping the flow of blood.
He was left in a weakened condition and heart trouble, which
followed, caused his death. He was 59 years of age.
Mr. Seiple was born in Eston and was a son fo the late Levi
H. and Christine Seiple. For many years he was proprietor of
the Woodley House, at Wind Gap, and under his efficient management,
the hostelry prospered. In 1905 he came to the city and engaged
in the wholesale liquor business with his father, at 14-16
North Fourth Street, under the firm name, of Levi H. Seiple & Son.
In 1913, Levi H. Seiple retired and William J. Seiple the son,
continued the business until January 1920, when Prohibition
became effective.
In November 1919, Mr. Seiple was elected as a county commissioner
on the Democratic ticker and served four years, the other member
of the board being Alfred A. Woodring and Elmer P. Buzzard.
In 1923, Mr. Seiple was re-elected and started on his second
term on the first Monday of January of the present year. He
was faithful in his duties, loyal to his friends and always
had the interest of the county at heart.
While a resident of Wind Gap, Mr. Seiple served as a member
of the Town Council and School Board and was always active
in democratic politics. He was the founder of the Arvon Slate
Company, Wind gap, and president of the company. He also helped
organize the Second National Bank , Nazareth, and was a director
and vice president.
Mr. Seiple is survived by his widow, Mrs. Arvesta Fehr Seiple
and by two children, Mrs. J. Earl Hedley, of Easton, and William
H. Seiple of Clearfield. He also leaves two brothers, Martin
Floyd Seiple and L. Herbert Seiple, both of Easton; a step-mother,
Mrs. Ann Seiple, of this city and three grandchildren.
Deceased was a member of Trinity Lutheran church, Bangor,
also of Bangor Lodge, No 565, F. and A. M; Easton Lodge, No.
121, B.P. O.E.; Easton Lodge, No. 45, Loyal Order of Moose;
Easton Aerie, No. 111,Fraternal Order of Eagles; Easton forest,
No. 25, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; the Odd Fellows and P.O.S.
of A., of wind Gap; Nemannauk Tribe, Improved Order of Red
men, Bangor; Jacksonian Democratic Association. Easton Board
of Trade and Northampton County Motor Association
