G. William Seip Ends His Live
Postal Inspector Turns on Gas In Kitchen of His Home
William G Seip, the United States postal inspector, who resided at 5438 Butler street, committed suicide early this morning in the kitchen of his home by inhaling a loom and 18 gas. Ill health and a nervous breakdown, which has been developing over the past two years, are believed to have and responsible for his act.

Mr. Seip retired at his usual hour last evening, between 7:30 at 8:00. This morning, Mrs. Alice Gangeware, who resides at 2440 Butler street in the other half of the double house which decide family occupies, detected the odor of gas and started to investigate. She tried to arouse Mrs. Seip, to see if the odor was coming from the Seip home, but the latter was still sleep and did not hear her. Mrs. Gangewere then return to her own home but was summoned about 15 minutes later by Mrs. Seip, who had awakened. Mrs. Seip asked Mrs. Gangeware and her father, Alfred Meyers, who resided in the same house to with her to investigate as she thought something was wrong with Mr. Seip, because she smelled gas coming from the kitchen, and she could not get in there because the doors were locked.

Mr. Meyers was unable to force the door leading from the dining room into the kitchen and then went to the rear, broke a window, and gain entrance in this way. He found Mr. Seip lying on the floor, dead, with gas pouring from five burners of the gas stove. The stove is equipped with plates and all these had been removed in order to permit the gas to escape more freely into the room.

The cracks in the doors and the windows had been stuffed with cloth in the room was almost airtight so that none of the air could escape.

Dr. C D. Hummel was summoned and the Easton Gas Works was also notified. The latter sent a force of three men with an oxygen inhaler and was used for about an hour and ½ effort to resuscitate Mr. Seip but without avail.

Mr. Seip had been connected with the postal business in Easton for 28 years. He was appointed a clerk by postmaster Andrews on January 1, 1900, and from that time made a creditable record. He was appointed a carrier by postmaster Serfass in July 16, 1909 on February 3, 1914, the authorities at Washington made him a post office inspector for the district covered by Northampton, Lehigh and Monroe counties. At one time Warren County, New Jersey, was also assigned to him but he was a relieved to this additional work by an order restricting New Jersey. Mr. Seip regarded as the most efficient postal inspector, he covered the district with so much success and faithfulness that he was raised to next to the highest rate in the service. He was often called upon to assist inspectors in other districts and handle a number of important cases.

Mr. Seip was born in Seipsville, Palmer township, a son of the late Mr. And Mrs. William Jacob Seip, and resided in this vicinity all his life. He was a member of the International Bible Student’s and the Modern Woodmen of the World.

Deceased is survived by his wife, Rosa H Seip, five daughters, Mrs. William Cregar, of Lyndhurst, New Jersey, Mrs. Thomas Arnold, Mrs. Arthur Stout, and Mrs. Arlington Albert, of Easton and Mrs. Rosabelle Seip at home. He also leaves four grandchildren.
