Farm Hand, 17, Dies of Injuries At Hecktown
Harold W. Rohn, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Rohn, of Lower Nazareth Township, was injured fatally yesterday when his body was caught in a binding and threshing machine while he was working on the Trio Farms in Hecktown.
The youth was rushed to Easton Hospital by other employees on the farm but died before he could receive medical aid.
Dr. David F. Bachman, Northampton County Coroner, who investigated, said the Rohn was enaged in threshing soy beans with Gustvae Fox, of Easton R.D.3, when his bedy became wedged between the shafting and metal framework of the machine.
Rohn, who operated the tractor went to help Fox to loosen jammed canvas on the conveyor and climbed over the moving shaft. Dr. Bachman said he was informed. As the attempt to return to the ground, the sleeve of his heavy jacket was caught in a portion of the open shafting from which rough particles protruded and he was pulled partly into the machine. His clothes were torn from his body. Fox stopped the machine and Rohn was rushed to the hospital.
Rohn was a member of the Evangelical Reformed congregation of Farmersville Church. He is survived in addition to his parents by these brothers and sisters, *****., *****, *****, and*****, all at home; two sisters, *****, of Easton, and Gladys, at home; paternal grandfather, Harvey Rohn, of Nazareth R.D1 and the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Kelchner, of Main Line road, Easton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bartholomew funeral home, 211 East Center Street, Nazareth, with the Rev. H. J. Ehret, officiating. Interment will be in Farmersville Cemetery. |
