Phillipburg Man Killed, Wife Hurt in Route 28 Crash
Miloe A. Parr, 31, Dies As Car, Truck Collide Mile West of
Clinton
A 31-year-old Phillipsburg man was killed and his wife was
seriously injured early today when the automabile in which
they were riding collided with a tractor-trailer unit on Route
28, a mile west of Clinton.
Miloe A. Parr of 816 Wilbur Avenue, dirvier of the car, was
killed instantly at 2:30 a.m., state police of the Clinton
station said, when the car, traveling westward, collided with
an eastbound tractor-trailer unit operatee by Ernest Marvin
Angstadt, 36, of Topton, Pa.
Parr's wife, Gladys, 30 was reported in serious condiiton
in Warren Hosptial , where she was taken by the High Bridge
ambulance.
Hospital officials said she suffered lacerations of the hand
and face and a bruised right foot and was scheduled for X-ray
of the skull, nose, spine, lower jaw and left arm.
Troopers Stanley Weppell and Robert Green said their investigation
revealed that the car Parr was driving cross into the eastbound
lane while traveling up a hill near Clinton Farms Reformatory
for Women and struck the left front of the tractor, then bounce
off and hit the trailer which was carrying a load of baled
straw.
The troopers called Coroner Lester W. Humphrey of Annandale,
who said that Parr was killed instantly. He order the body
taken to Trimmer's Funeral home, Clinton and later it was taken
to Hagerty's Colonial home, Phillipsburg.
Angstadt and his brother, Harold, 25, escaped injury, the
troopers said. They were taken before Bergen N. Carter, of
Flemington, Hunterdon County clerk and district court clerk,
who released them under $200 bail each as material witnesses
to appear before the grand jury.
According to the troopers the car diven by Parr was owned
by Frank Paini of Phillipsburg. The vehicle was demolished.
Straw from the trailer was strewn about the highway.
Parr was born in Belvidere, a son of George P. and Anna M.
Lauer Parr of Morris Park. He had resided in Phillipsburg for
25 years and was graduated from Phillipsburg High School in
1935.
He formerly was an agent for the New Jersey State Alcholic
Beverage Control Commission, and at the time of his death was
employed by the American Stores Co., in Easton. He was a member
of Wesley Methodist Church.
In addtion t his wife and parents, he is survived by two daughters,
Annelle N. 9 and Elaine c. 3. |
