Russell Nixon 61, World War I Vet, was Architect
Russell S. Nixon, 61, of 252 Shafer Avenue, Phillipsburg,
an architect who served overseas wit the A.E. F during World
Wa I, died today at 2:10 a.m. in Easton Hospital after a
long illness. He was admitted on Sunday.
Mr. Nixon, a lifelong Phillipsburg resident, was the son
of the late Frank and Sarah Ellen Nixon. He had worked independently
as an architect for the 10 years. he formerly worked for
the old Standard silk mill, and at one time was employed
in the South by a structural Steel firm.
During the war he served with Company C, 303rd Engineer
Battalion in the 78th Division. He saw action in a number
of campaigns and was wounded at St. Michiel, France. He was
discharged with the rank of sergeant.
Mr. Nixon was amember of the Fleas Club, Rice Ebner Post,
American Legion, and the Lieut Elbert Curtis Baker Post,
Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Easton.
Surviving are his wife, Daisy Schaefer Nixon; three sisters,
Mrs. Bersenia DeWitt and Miss E. Ruth Nixon, both of Phillipsburg,
and Miss Flora Nixon of Easton and two bothers, Roy of Stewartsville
and Harold of Phillipsburg. |
