Dr. Lockard, Dentist, Dead
Freeholder, Three times Mayor of Belvidere and former Assemblyman
Dr. E. C. Lockard, member of the Warren County Board of Freeholders
former Assemblyman and three times Mayor of Belvidere, died at
98:45 o’clock Sunday morning at his home, 321 A Front street,
Belvidere of neuralgia of the heart. He had been ill for a long
time. He was 61 years of age.
Dr. Lockard was a son of the late Samuel and Elizabeth Lockard
and was born at Mt. Bethel, Pa. He attended the public schools
oat Belvidere and then entered Philadelphia Dental College
where he was graduated. He opened an office at Bangor and conducted
it for eight year prior to returning to Belvidere where he
practiced for 32 years.
Mr. Lockard was mayor of Belvidere in 1922, 1923, and 1925,
and in 1926 was elected to the new Jersey Assembly. Last November
he was elected to the Board of freeholder for a term of four
years.
He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Albert Albert, of
Bangor, one son, Elmer C. of Belvidere, and two daughters,
Mrs. John Correll, of Bangor and Mrs. Harry Hartzell, of Belvidere.;
two sisters, Mrs. Elmira Hyatt, of Chester, N.Y., and Mrs.
Ella Krom, of Philadelphia; and two brothers, J.J. Lockard,
of Atlantic City, and Harry Lockard, of Belvidere.
Dr. Lockard was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church,
Warren Lodge, No. 3, F. and A.M., Senior American Mechanics,
Junior American Mechanics, Independent Order of Red Men, Knights
of Pythias, Sons and daughters of Liberty, Odd Fellows, Daughters
of Rebeka, Daughters of Pocohontas (Roxburg lodge0 and the
knights of the Ku. Klux Klan.
Private funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon
at 2:30 o’clock at his home, Rev. F. C. Ether, officiating.
Interment will be made in the Belvidere cemetery. The body
will lie in state at this home from 10 o’clock Tuesday
morning until 10 o’clock Wednesday morning
