George Laros, 66, Owned Plainfield Twp. Restaurant
George A. Laros, 66, of 2810 Green Pond Road, Palmer Township, founder of the Windmill Restaurant, Plainfield township, died yesterday in Allentown and scred Heart Hospital Center.
He was the owner and operator of the Windmill for the last six years. He was previously manager and executive vice president of Laros Printing Co., Miller Heights.
In 1964, he was elected chairman of the Northampton County Cancer Crusade.
In 1970 he received a letter from president Nixon and other top government officials complimenting him on the publication of his first book,: The President Plane”: in which he interviewed Nixon’s personal pilot in his research. The book traces the history of most special transport planes – those used by presidents of the U.S.
He was instrument in designing accommodations for wheelchair patients on the Queen Elizabeth II of the Conard Lines, which became the first line with special facilities for wheelchair bound passengers.
He was a member of the Palmer Moravian Community Church and was past president of its board of trustees. He was a 1928 graduate of Easton High school and attended Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y, where he was a member of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity. He was a charter member of the Palmer Township Lions Club.
Born in Easton, on July 10, 1911, he was a son of Walter C. and Elizabeth Fleming Laros, now of Palmer township.
Surviving in addition t his parents are his wife, the former Emily Fritts; a daughter, ******, Media and a son, ******, of Wilson, and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Palmer Moravian community church. The Shillinger funeral Home, Easton, is in charge of arrangements. |
