Son, 64, Stricken Ten Hours After Death of Mother
Double Funeral Rites to Be Held Thursday In Portland
A bridge officer for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge
Commission, who formerly resided in Phillipsubrg, died last
night at his home in Portland, 10 hours after his mother died
at the same residence.
The son, Allen H. Jones, 64, an officer on the bridge at Delaware,
N.J. was stricken with a heart attack at his home Delaware
Avenue, after his mother, Mrs. Laura B. Jones, 83, had died
there earlier in the day.
Double funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
in the Horton funeral home, Johnsonville, The Rev. Ernest T.
Campbell, pastor of Portland Presbyterian Church, will officiate.
Interment will be in Riverview cemetery, Portland.
Mr. Jones was born in Portland and had been a bridge officer
about 15 years. While he resided in Phillipsburg, he worked
at the old Standard Silk Mill. He moved back to Portaland when
he was appointed a bridge officer.
He was a member of a Presbytian Church in Phillipsburg; Delaware
Lodge 52, F. & A. M. of Phillipsburg; Lehigh Consistory,
of Allentown; Crescent Shrine TEmple of Trenton, N.J., and
Warren County Forest 14, Tall Cedars of Lebanon.
Mr. Jones formerly was a scribe for the Tall Cedars organization
while he made his home in Phillipsburg. He was also a member
of the Laurel Hill Rod and Gun Club of Portand,. His only survivor
is his wife, Ethel S. Jones. |
