George Garis
George Garis, one of the oldest residents of the South Side, died at
4 o'clock, Saturday afternoon at his home, 535 Lincoln street, where
he resided with his adopted son, Edward Garis. He had been in failing
health for a long time and the end was not unexpected. He is also survived
by a daughter, Mary, widow of the late George Sox, of 743 Grant Street.
His wife died many years ago. The deceased was in his 75th year. A
brother of the deceased, Peter Garis, resides on Coal Street.
Mr. Garis was employed as a janitor for the Franklin Fire Company,
of which he was an honored and respected member. In his earlier life
he was an active and charter member of the old Pocahontas Fire Company,
of South Easton, and took a great interest in fire matters. Mr. Garis
was a member of St. Peter's Reformed Church, of the South Side. |
