Dr. Samuel Gruver
Dr. Samuel J. Gruver, aged 78, died on Feb. 20, while walking
on the streets in Brockton, Mass., where he had lived since
1881. Dr. Gruver was born in Lower Mt. Bethel Township, this
county and in early life moved to Portland. He entered Lafayette
College in the class of 1870 and after attending three months
went to the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in
1869.
In 1878, he was elected as chief burgess of Portland. After
moving to Brockton in 1881, he became active in the practice
of his profession and also a member of the Congregational Church.
In 1888, he was elected an alderman and was one of the founders
of the East Side Street Railway, Of that city. He is survived
by his wife, who is well-known playwright. |
