Thomas Gorman
Thoams Gorman, 65, a resident of Salinas for the past 18 years,
died Sunday at the Hospice of the Monterey Peninsula after
a lengthy illness.
Mr. Gorman was a retired lieutenant colonel, having served
inthe U.S. Army for 25 years, during both World War II and
the Korean War.
After his retirement from the military, he worked as a teacher
at Spreckels Elementary School from 1965 to 1977.
He was a graduate of Syracuse university, and was a member
of the social fraternity Alpha Chi Rho, and of the literary
fraternity Sigma Upsilon.
Mr. Gorman was also a member of the First United methodist
Church in Salinas; Masonic Lodge 578 of Fayetteville, N.Y.,
the Hartnell College Drama Theater, a past presdient of the
Monterey Organ Buffs, the Monterey Hot Jazz Society, and a
former director of the Hypnosis Associates of Salinas.
He is survied by his wife, Helen, of Salinas; two sons, Robert,
of Millis, Mass., and Thomas Jr. of Sunnyvale, as well as one
daughter, Carol Jean Knight of Point Mugu, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Frist
United Methoidst Church, with the Rev. hervert Hirschfeld officiating.
Inurment, with full military honors, will be in the Garden
of Memoires. Arrangements are under the direction of struve & Laporte
funeral Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the First United
Methodist Church or to the Hospice of the Monterey Penisula.
