Funeral Rites Are Schedule for G. R. Good
The funeral of George R. Good, 80, former Lower Mount Bethel
Township supervisor, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the
Horton-Reed Funeral Home, Johnsonville.
Mr. Good died at noon yesterday in Easton Hospital. He was
hospitalized Saturday. His home was on the Richmond-Belvidere
road, Bangor R.D. 2.
Mr. Good was a Lower Mount Bethel Township official for 44
years. He was a supervisor for 35 years, and also was school
director, tax collector and township secretary. He did not
seek re-election as a supervisor in 1959.
He served as an officer of the Northampton County Association
Township Officials for 26 years. He was a past president. He
was a delegate to the Pennsylvania Township Supervisor’s
Association for the full 26 year period and was a member of
the executive committee. He served as second vice president
of the state association from 1938 to 1943 when he was advanced
to first vice president.
Born in Upper Mount Bethel Township, he was a son of the late
Henry and Josephine Correll Good. He spent most of his life
in Lower Mount Bethel Township. In his early life he was a
farmer.
On Dec. 18, 1858, Mr. Good was honored for his long service
to township government as the Northampton County Association
Township officials started it 46th annual convention at the
courthouse in Easton.
Mr. Good was a director and vice president of church Hill
Cemetery Association. He was a lifetime member of Holstein
Friesan Association of American. He was also a member of Mount
Zion United Church of Christ, Martin’s Creek; the Sunday
school of the church, Portland Lodge 311, R. &. A.M. Portland;
Lehigh Consistory, Allentown, and Easton Forest 35, Tall Cedars
of Lebanon.
His first wife, the former Lillie Deats, died July 14, 1944.
Surviving are his widow, the former Beulah Ross Deats; a son,
Earl S. Good, Bangor R. D. 2; three daughters, Mrs. Clark Yetter,
Bangor R.D.2; Mrs. Arling Kiefer Sr., Bangor R.D3, and Mrs.
Ernest Stevens, Bangor R.D.2; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Johnson,
Easton; two brothers, William, Easton, and Martin L., Tatamy;
two stepdaughters, Mrs. Conley Huskey and Mrs. William James,
both of Sevlerville, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren
and one step-grandchild. |
