M. W. Brown, 58, Principal Of School, Dies
Easton R. D. Resident Formerly Taught in Wilson
Merritt W. Brown, 58, president of the Eastern Pennylvania Junior HIgh School Principals association and a former Wilson High School teacher, died yesterday aftetnoon in St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hll. His home was at Lomero Acres, Easton R.D. 2.

Mr. Brown was principal of Nitschmann Junior High School, Bethlehem, since 1932. Before that he taught at Wilson High School and at Broughal Junior High School.

Mr. brown also was president of the Secondary Principal's Workshopheld annually at Lehigh Universty. He served on the Lower Nazareth Township Planning Commission for two years.

Born in Easton, he was a son of the late Irvin A. and Elsie Weaver Brown.

Mr. Brown was a graduate of Bethlehem High school and Lehigh University. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees at Lehigh and did graduate work at the University of Pennsylvania and New York University.

Mr. Brown was a member of the National Education Association, the National Secondary Principals' Association, the Pennylvania Secondard Principals' Associaiton and the Pennsylfania Education Association.

Active in church work, he was a member of Christ United Church of Christ, Bethlehem, where he was vice president and chairman of the consistory and general chiarman fo the church building committee.

Mr. brown was an elder of the church for 15 years and before that served as deacon for many years. He was recently named elder primarious of the church and as such was a delegate to the Eastern Pennylvania Synod of United Church of Christ Churches. He also was a delegate to the National Synod, representing the Eastern Pennylvania Synod.

He served as genernal superintendent of the church school at Christ church. The organizer of the Bethlehem Council of Churches, he served as its first president in 1955. He also served as chairman of Bethlehem Weekday Church School executive Committee.

He served as president of the Northampton county Christian Endeavor Union in the 1920's and was responsible for bringing the Pennsylvania State Christian Endeavor convention to Bethlehem in 1929.

He was a member of Bethlehem Rotary Club and served a chairman of it's spiritual emphasis committee. He was president of the Lehigh Valley Torch Club and a former program chairman of the club.

Surviving are his widow, the former Lolita Downin; two sons, Dr. Robert I. Brown, Bridgeport, W. VA., and ***** a student at Rider College; a sister Mrs. Alvin H. Driesbach, Kresgeville, and two grandchildren.

The funeral will beheld at 2 p. m. Monday at the Christ United church of Christ, Center and Market Streets, Bethlehem
