George V. Bixler, Mali Carrier for 42 Years, Was 72
George B. Bixler, 72, a retired mail carrier with 42 years of postal services, died today at 13?29 a.m. at his home, 18 South Seventh Street,. Mr. Bixler had been in failing health for several months.
At the time of his retirement on June 30, 1947, Mr. Bixler was serving a route in downtown Easton. He was appointed a substitute carrier on April 1, 1905 and became a regular carrier May 3, 1906. During his long career in the postal service, he had served routes in Wilson and Easton. His last 131 /2 years were spent on the downtown route.
Born on Nov 15, 1977, in Mauch Chunk, he was a son of the late John A .and Sabina C. Bixler. He had made his home in Easton since he was seven years old. Mr. Bixler was a charter member of the Easton Elks Lodge and a member of the McKinley Club.
Surviving are his wife, Arabella Bird Bixler; a daughter, Mrs. Eva M. Ryan, of Easton; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; a sister, Miss Elizabeth W. Bixler and a brother, Charles S. Bixler, both of Easton.

Funeral of Mr. Bixler
The funeral of George V. Bixler, 72, a retired mail carrier, who died Thursday at his home, 18 South Seventh Street, was held this afternoon with services in the Adams home.
The Rev. George A. Creitz, pastor of first Evangelical Reformed church, officiated at the rites. Interment was in Easton Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert E. Mattes, Theodore Sigafoos, Charles Buerlen, George Diehl, James Burnett and Harold Haas, all former fellow workers of Mr. Bixler at the Easton Post office.
The Easton Elks lodge, of which the deceased was a member, held services last evening in the funeral home. |
