Roy DePue Amey, Bell Employee, Dies in Hospital
Roy DePue Amey, 58, of Harmony, one of the oldest employees of the Easton Office of the Bell Telephone Co., died yesterday at Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg.
Mr. Amey had been employed at the Easton Bell Telephone office for 33 years and his last position was that of storekeeper. He formerly was employed by the New York Telephone Co., coming to Easton from that place. He assisted in construction of the line from Easton to Stroudsburg.
Mr.Amey also was a local pioneer in Red Cross First Aid, and also was a fingerprint expert, having been superintendent of identification of the Phillipsburg Police Department.
He was instructor in first aid for the well-trained Phillipsburg Emergency Squad, and took great pride in the accomplishments of that organization.
He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and of Harmony Presbyeterian church.
He is a son of Matt and the late Mrs. Rosa Roseberry Amey, and in addition to his father, he is survived by two sons, Mattison R. and Richard D. Amey, both in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific, and two daughters, Mrs. Harvey Bressler, Dover, N.J. and Mrs. Arthur Thatcher, Belvidere road, Phillipsburg, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at his home, I charge of the Rev. Louis Grotenhuis and interment will be in Belvidere cemetery.
