They came to Pennsylvania in the 1800's from Prussia/Germany. Notes: Wednesday, Sept 20, 1871, Easton Express Sundymeyer - Sept 18th, Henry Sondymeyer, aged 42 years. The funeral will take place from the residence of Mrs. Portner, near the M & E depot, on Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock. The relatives and friends are invited to attend. Obit: Sondermeire: In Phillipsburg, NJ on June 4, 1878 Wilhlemina Sondermeire mother of Matilda Portner, aged 80 Years and 7 months. The relatives and friends are respectively invited to attend the funeral from 215 Market Street, Phillipsburg, tomorrow (Thursday) at 2 O'Clock P.M. Services at the Cemetery Chapel and interment in Easton Cemetery. Will of Matilda Portner Warren County, 4127U (1896) In the name of God, Amen, I Matilda Portner of the town of Phillipsburg, County of Warren and State of New Jersey, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do make and publish my last will and testament as follows. First: It is my will that my funeral expenses be paid out of the insurance on my life and that the graves of myself and husband Conrad Portner be each marked by a low granite headstone, suitably inscribed. Second - It is my will, that all my personal estate, not herein bequeathed, be sold to pay my debts and if the proceeds of suck personal property be not sufficient, to pay my debts, including any excess of funeral expenses and markers above mentioned and expenses for administering my estate, then I do authorize and empower my executor hereinafter named to collect and receive the rents and income of my real estate and apply the same to the payment of my debts and expenses aforesaid or if my executor shall deem in necessary and for the good of my estate, I do empower and authorize him to mortgage my real estate to obtain sufficient money to pay off aforesaid debts and expenses or such others as may occur. And to apply the rents and income of my real estate to the payment of said mortgage and at the discretion of my executor he may at various times pay some part of said income and rents to my grandson Charles Hulmes, the amount or amounts to be determined by my said executor. Third - I give and bequeath to Lizzie Miller, my granddaughter the bed and bedding now used by me; watch and watch chain, click bracket, two white cotton comforts, 3 white woolen blankets. Fourth - I give and bequeath to Minnie Miller, my granddaughter the bed and bedding now used by Charles Hulmes, my earrings and breast pin, two white cotton comforts, three white woolen blankets. Fifth - I give and bequeath my clothes to the living daughters of my brother John Sundermeir. Sixth - I give and bequeath to the Easton Cemetery Company fifty dollars to be used to keep the graves of my husband Conrad Portner and myself in good condition.
Seventh - I give and devise unto my grandson Charles Hulmes, for and during his natural life, all my real estate of every kind whatsoever, and wheresoever situated, and he shall be permitted to enjoy, possess and occupy the same, and receive the rents issues and profits, to his own use for and during his lifetime or to rent the same to any tenant or or tenants and that he will and preserve the same free and clear of all circumstances thereon, and that he will keep the same in good condition and repair, and that he will pay all taxes assessed upon and against said property or real estate and keep the same insured, and upon the decease of my said grandson Charles Hulmes, if he shall died laving more than one child, then I devise my said real estate unto the children of said Charles Hulmes to their heirs forever; but if my said grandson should die leaving but one child then I order and direct that my executor hereinafter named shall dispose of my real estate and divide the proceeds thereof one half to said child and the other half among the children of my daughter Sophia Miller and if my said grandchild, Charles Hulmes, should decease leaving no lawful issue then it is my will that my executor should dispose of all my real estate at public sale, and divide the proceeds thereof amount the children of my said daughter Sophia Miller for them and their heirs forever and if in carrying out the provision and conditions of this item it becomes necessary to dispose of my real estate, I then do authorize and empower my executor to give good and sufficient conveyance to the purchaser or purchasers thereof - this item shall be subject to the provisions of item second above set forth. Eighth - I give and bequeath to my daughter Sophia Miller the sum of Five Hundred dollars in case she believing at my decease. Ninth- if my son Henry Homan, (By a former husband) and from whom I have not heard for forty years or more should return or be living at my decease then I do order my executor to pay to the said Henry Homan the sum of One dollar. I hereby appoint my friend William Sharp sole executor of this will and will and testament, revoking all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the forth day of March eighteen Hundred & Ninety Six Signed: Matilda Portner Matilda Portner's death certificate indicate that John Droesmeier was her father, which makes her a half sister to John and Henry Sundermeir.
