L. R. Amey Was Retired in Phillipsburg Six Years Ago.
Lafayette R. Amey, a well known resident of Phillipsburg, who left here la st March to make his home in Bogota, N.J., with Mrs. Myrtle Black, died th ere last night from a complication of ailments, aged 72 years. For a numb er of years, Mr. Amey made his home with Mrs. Martha Laubach, 39 Chambe rs street, and prior to that time resided on Hudson Street.
Mr. Amey was a teacher in the Phillipsburg public schools for 20 years pri or to six years ago when he was retired, and was principal of the Sitgreav es building. Before coming to Phillipsburg from Stewartsville he taug ht in the latter place and also in Alpha, and had a record of 48 yea rs of teaching, for about eight years being engaged in Pennsylvania.
During all the years Mr. Amey was engaged in school work he made many frie nds, and a numbe rof former pupils are now engaged in teaching or followi ng other professions. With all his pupils and many others, he was he ld in the highest regard.
Deceased was a member of First Presbyterian church. He is survived by a s ister and a brother, Mrs. Mary Laubach and Isaac Amey, both of Bursonvill e, Pa.

Funeral of Mr. Amey
Funeral service for Lafayette R. Amey, formerly of this town, who di ed at Bogota, N.J., were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Haggerty Coloni al Home, Morris Street, by Rev. Gorman Roof, pastor of First Presbyteri an church. Friends of the deceased served as pallbearers and interment w as made in the Easton Heights cemetery. Mr. Amey was a retired public sch ool teacher. |
