Richard R. George, 81, of Bethlehem, passed away November 17, 2004, in the V.N.A. Hospice at St. Lukes Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Jean L. (Snyder) George. They were married for 60 years in October. Born in Chapmans Quarry, he was the son of the late John D. and Abbie (Roberts) George. Richard served in the Navy during World War II from 1943-1946 in the V-6 program and completed three years of basic engineering school at Dearborn, Mich., graduating with high honors. Later, he completed advance schooling in Norfolk, Va. He worked for Standard Oil of Indiana (AMOCO) in the transportation department for 27 years before retiring in 1977. Prior, he worked in the research department of Bethlehem Steel Corp. for four years. Richard was a member of Christ Church U.C.C., Bethlehem, Rubicon of Christ Church (formerly Brotherhood of Church), Undershepherd of Christ Church, assisted with two editions of the Church pictorial directory and delivered flowers to hospital shut-ins at Christmas and Easter. He was a member of H. Stanley Goodwin Masonic Lodge 648, affiliated with the visitation committee; Lehigh Consistory, was a 32nd-degree Mason and past president of the Bethlehem-Hellertown Section, joined Rajah Shrine of Reading, was a member and director of the Bethlehem Shrine Club, was a past president of the Hospital Service Unit; was a member and past trustee of Tall Cedars of Lebanon 61, and a charter member and trustee of Christmas City High Twelve 623. He was a past member of the MORA Club and a past vice president of the Lincoln Fire Company.


Survivors: Wife; daughter, Donna Jean DeFulvio and her husband Gary of Saucon Valley; son, Gary James George and his wife Judy of Center Valley; sister, Geraldine Sterns of Fairport, N.Y.; four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Grace E. Benner and Pauline Webb, and brothers, Robert M. and John George.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem. Viewing, 7-9 p.m. Friday with a Masonic Service at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
