Samuel R. L. Snyder, 81, retired general building contractor in Easton, died yesterday afternoon in Warren hospital where he had been a patient since last Tuesday.

Mr. Snyder whose health had been failing for several years, had resided with his daughter, Mrs. James R. Morrison, of 831 McCartney street, Easton, for the last year.

He operated his contracting business in Easton for more than 40 years, retiring about seven years ago.

Born in Portland, Dec 2, 1871, he was a so of the late Enos and Anna C. Myers Snyder. He resided in Easton most of his life, living her at the home of his son, Clare L. Snyder, before moving to his daughter’s residence.

Mr. Snyder was for more than 50 years a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, South Side and informer years had served from time to time on the church council. He was a past councilor of South Easton Council 590, Fraternal Patriotic Americans, and former president of board of directors of Hay’s cemetery Company.

His wife, the former Mary Alice Gabert, died in 1944. Surviving in addition to his daughter and son are two other children, Kenneth D. Snyder, of Rochester, Pa., and Mrs. Luther Vogel, of Kettleman city, and seven grandchildren.
