W. E. Smith, 83, Ex-Blacksmith
William E. (Billy) Smith, 83, died yesterday at his home, 136 N. Main St., Nazareth. He was in ill health a year.

Born in Hazleton, Jan 28, 1883, he was a son of the late Stephen and Alice Prior Smith. He lived in Nazareth 63 years.

Mr. Smith was an employee of the Pennsylvania Power and Light Co. for 21 years, retiring in 1948. In his earlier life he was a blacksmith in Nazareth for 21years.

He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Nazareth; the POS of A, Knights of Friendship and the independent Order of Odd Fellows, all of Nazareth, and Bethlehem Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles.

He and his wife, the former Mary E. Best, celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Dec 6.

Survivors include three brothers, Calvin B., Kellersville; Earl S. and Warren Pl. both of Saylorsburg; four sisters, Mrs. George Kichline and Grace wife of Lawrence Tremmel, both of Bethlehem; Florence, wife of Joyal Fordner, Wind Gap, and Mrs. Edwin Schmuader, Pen Argyl.

A son and daughter and two brothers died before him.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Schmidt Mortuary, Nazareth.
