Boy Fatally Hurt in Fall Through An elevator Shaft
Walter Laubach, six year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Laubach, 1935 Lehigh street, died in the Easton Hospital at 12:35 this afternoon from injuries received in the morning in the Laubach department store. He fell through the freight elevator shaft from the third floor to the basement at 11:05 o'clock and was immediately hurried to the hospital in the car of William H. Laubach, a member of the firm. He died without having regained consciousness. Hospital authorities said he suffered from internal injuries and a fracture of the skull.

Little Walter Laubach was in the habit of occasionally visiting his father, who is employed in the carpet department on the third floor of the Laubach store. He was there this morning and was running about having a good time. Men were carting furniture from the street tot he third floor and were using the freight elevator. Walter ran into the car several times and was frequently warned of his danger because the car is open on both sides so as to facilitate the unloading of merchandise on different floors. The car does not fit tightly into the shaft but the door on each floor except the one which the car is stopped is always closed.

The last time the child ran onto the car he went too far, slipped off and fell through the shaft. Everything possible had been done to prevent the distressing accident but to no avail. The boy's father accompanied him to the hospital and Mrs. Laubach was sent for. Both parents were with him when he passed away.

The boy was a great favorite among his companions and in the the Laubach store where, through his frequent visits, he became acquainted with many of the clerks. This morning was the first time he was known to have gone near the elevator shaft.

Mr. and Mrs. Labach have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends., Walter was their only child.
