Notes:
Montford E. Illick Sr., 91, of 1380 Second Ave., Hellertown,
died Saturday in St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of
Helen V. (King) Illick. They were married 66 years last June.
Illick was superintendent of the former Hellertown-Lower Saucon
School District for 10 years, retiring in 1963. He was supervising
principal of the Hellertown schools, 1928-53; principal of
Hellertown High School, 1927-28, and teacher at Lambertville
(N.J.) High School, 1923-27.
A 1923 graduate of Lafayette College, he earned a master's
degree from Lehigh University in 1935.
During his career and after retirement, he was honored for
his work by Hellertown High School's Alumni Association; the
Hellertown- Lower Saucon Education Association; the Hellertown
Jaycees, Kiwanis and Lions' clubs, and the Lower Saucon Lions
Club.
Born in Williams Township, he was a son of the late Ira F.
and Stella B. (Steckel) Illick.
He was a past superintendent of the Sunday school and served
on the council of Christ Lutheran Church, Hellertown.
In 1972, Illick was named revenue division chairman for the
community celebration of Hellertown Centennial Inc., and in
1969, he served on a Hellertown Borough Council committee to
establish an ordinance to strengthen the health codes regarding
buildings.
In 1959, he was cited by Northampton County Voiture, 40 et
8, for his civic activities.
He was president of the Hellertown Lions Club 1932-33.
Survivors: Wife; son, daughters,
13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
