Nazareth -- John T. Humphrey, 81, of 1307 Bangor Road in Plainfield Township, died Thursday in his home, he had been in ill health the past six years.

He was last employed as an insurance agent for John Hancock Insurance Co. for 23 years before retiring in 1974. Early in life he worked as a knitter for the former Kayser Hosiery Mills in Bangor for 25 years.

He was a member of the Belfast-Edelman Rod and Gun Club and Plainfield Farmers Association, where he served as chaplain and fair photographer for 42 years.

Born May 18, 1911, in Edelmans, he was a son of the late David and Martha Frack Humphrey.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist church in Edelmans, where he taught Sunday School and served on the Board of Administration of the Church for over 40 years. He also sang with the church choir for over 60 years.

Mr. Humphrey had perfect attendance at Sunday School and church for 60 years. He as past treasurer of the parsonage fund for both the Wind Gap and Belfast charge.

At one time he played outfield for the former Kayser A.A. and Belfast-Edelmans. A.A. baseball teams.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a life member of Emyln H. Evans American Legion Post 278 in Bangor, and a member of the MORA club of Nazareth.

He and his wife the former Grace Breidinger, observed their 52nd wedding anniversary last June 24.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Rev. David E. of Plainfield Township; three nieces and a nephew.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Wesley United Methodist church in Edelmans, Interment will be in Plainfield Church Cemetery, in Plainfield Township. Call from 7 to 8:30 Sunday in the Schmidt Mortuary in Nazareth.
