Mrs. D.E. Ritter, Easton Native, Dies After Fall
Mrs. Jennie M. Ritter, a native of Easton, was injured fatally yesterday
in a fall at her home, 29 N. 17th St., Allentown. She was the widow
of an Allentown industrial and civic leader.
Mrs. Ritter was admitted to Allentown Hospital at 1:20 p.m. she died
at 7:10 p.m.
Her husband was the late Daniel E. Ritter, who died in 1937. Mrs.
Ritter was a daughter of the late Stephen T. and Josephine E. Frankenfield
Cole. She had lived in Allentown for 50 years.
She was a sister of John S. Cole, Easton, retired supervising principal
of Palmer Township School.
Active in politics since 1920, she helped organize the state Council
of Republican Women and was a member of the Republican State committee.
Mrs. Ritter's husband died in 1937. He was first vice president and
general manger of the Lehigh Portland Cement Co. also was president
of the Allentown Steam Heat Power Co. and a director of the Lehigh
Valley Trust co, and the Allentown Bethlehem Gas Co. He served several
terms on the city planning commission. Shortly after Mr. Ritter's death.
Mrs. Ritter was appointed to fill his vacancy on the board of trustees
of the Allentown Community Chest.
Mrs. Ritter was the first woman to be appointed to the Valley Forge
Park Commission.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Allentown; the Lehigh
Country Club; the North End and West End Republican Clubs; Allentown;
the Lehigh County Council of Republican Women, which she also helped
to organize; the Women's Auxiliary of Muhlenburg College; the Senior
Auxiliary of Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, and the Junior Auxiliary
of the Allentown Hospital.
Her brother is her only survivor. |
